Overview
Yachana Lodge is an award winning, Amazon geo-tourism destination that inspires thousands of international and Ecuadorian visitors each year.
“Yachana” is an indigenous Quichua word that means “a place for learning”, which is the best description of what they do. As you embark on your journey deep into the Amazon, you can be proud that your visit is helping to address education, conservation and sustainable development in a unique way in this environmentally sensitive region. At Yachana, they believe the future of the rainforest is inextricably linked to the wellbeing of its inhabitants; only those who call the rainforest their home can ensure its survival.
As the recent winner of the National Geographic Ashoka Changemakers Challenge, Yachana Lodge is now considered a world leader in geo-tourism. And Yachana’s contributions to conservation and education are at once extraordinary and subtle. They range from preparing the next generation of environmental stewards to protecting enormous swaths of rainforest. They include serving organic, farm-raised meals to sustainable solar electricity. In other words, the environment is not something they “consider” at Yachana, but rather living in harmony with nature pervades every aspect of their life.
Nevertheless, being green doesn't mean Yachana’s forsaken comfort! To the contrary, at Yachana Lodge, they've found ways to deliver the luxury you deserve while protecting the environment that sustains them. The lodge offers first-rate accommodations and a wide range of amenities, all in the midst of the incredible natural beauty of the rainforest.
During your visit to Yachana, you will hike in primary and secondary rainforest with one of Yachana's English-speaking naturalist guides and discover the amazing symbiosis of the animals, birds, trees, plants and insects to name but a few. You will discover how the area's peoples have coexisted with the forest for centuries. You will visit Yachana's extraordinary and impressive Technical High School, established for the indigenous youth of the Amazon and learn about its organic farm. You will visit a traditional healer for a cleansing ceremony, stargaze from the stunning deck and visit the Butterfly House. You will have time to relax in your hammock and to swim in the Napo River or to sip a drink while watching a spectacular sunset. Whatever your motivation for visiting Yachana, you can be sure that your experience will be unforgettable!
