Season Dates The climate is very similar to southern Florida... perhaps a bit warmer. As in Florida, easterly trade-winds prevail, with a fresh sea breeze every day. November through March are Belize's windiest months. June through September is Prime Diving Time, with the lightest winds and calmest seas.

When is the "best time" to come to Belize? Anytime you can!
Accommodations At Spiritwind Reef Resort your room is always clean, comfortable and safe. Each of your authentic Carib-style Cabanas is a unique creation; well appointed with plush Queen or Double Beds (hand-crafted in Jungle Style), traditional Mayan and Garifuna "craftsman" furnishings, original works from local artists, cool tropical ceiling fans, and private baths with "on demand" hot showers.

The view from your private veranda is nothing less than spectacular! Each "Casita" overlooking the beautiful Dangriga River, is surrounded by lush Tropical Gardens, with Hummingbirds, Butterflies and fragrant Flowers of every hue. Like wildlife? Spirit Wind Resort's riverside grounds are a Green Iguana Sanctuary, where "herds" of the prehistoric beasts roam freely... they are quite tame, so keep your camera handy for that special candid shot! Or simply lay in your traditional Mayan Hammock, and watch the show as Parrots, Toucans and many other species of birds and animals visit our peaceful gardens.

Want some "Caribbean Style"? No Problem Mon! Just come by the Garifuna Gal Salon, and you will be in "dreads" before you can say Bob Marley; either in the privacy of your own room or in the "cool shade" of the huge spreading Mango Trees!
Dining Are you hungry? Are you thirsty? Then come on in! The Salty Dog Saloon (Spirit Wind's riverside Restaurant and Bar) serves up the BEST in authentic Belize and Caribbean food... guaranteed! And the Bar delivers the coldest tropical drinks and the most fun the law allows... seven days a week!

At night you can sit by the river, sip a few Long Cool Drinks, and (as they say in Belize) just REST, RELAX and REASON.

So don't go 'round hungry. Don't go 'round thirsty. Just open wide and take a bite.

Taste the good life! You'll be glad you did.
Landscape Belize is a botanical wonderland, from the watery maze of coastal Mangrove Jungles, dripping with moisture-loving Orchids and Tilandsias, to the cool and dark Mountain Rainforest, lush with Giant Antheriums, Bromeliads and Tree Ferns. It is a diverse ecosystem unlike any other, with more that 4,000 species of flowering plants (not to mention countless species of ferns and mosses) and 700 species of trees.

Many flowers bloom the year around here; but the most spectacular floral show occurs during the dry season (January through May), when the Mayflower, Poinciana, Accacia and other flowering trees paint the jungle with a kaleidoscope of dazzling colors.

The riverside grounds of Spiritwind Reef Resort are lovingly maintained as a Botanical Garden. Flowers of every description and hue are always in bloom here. Pineapples along with Mango, Guava, Breadfruit, Banana, Lime, Coconut and other tropical fruit trees bear fragrant fruit throughout the garden.

Simply rest, relax and enjoy it.

  • Wildlife Viewed With (at least) 500 species of indigenous Birds, Belize is a Birdwatchers' Dream. There are gaudy Scarlet Maccaws, Amazon Parrots, Aztec Parakeets, beautiful and comical Toucans, as well as a spectacular congregation of lesser known species: Aricari, Blue-crowned Mot Mot, Resplendant Quetzal, Crimson Flycatcher, and Montezumas' Oropendula, just to name a few. Your eyes will be dazzled by the hundreds of bird species which illuminate the skies.

And then there are the "Mega Birds." Giants of the skies like the incredible Jabiru Stork, the RARE and beautiful Emperor Vulture, or the "King" of the rainforest canopy... the Harpy Eagle.

The unique geography of Spiritwind Reef Resort, situated as it is, both at the coast and in the river valley, creates a very diverse mix of convergent species. On any given day you may observe; Toucan, Aztec Parakeet, any of the seven species of Parrots, Yucatan Jays, Oropendula, sunshine-bright Kiskadee, a variety of Hummingbirds, various species of Warblers PLUS Kingfishers, Hawks, Eagles, Owls, various Wading Birds, acrobatic ocean-going Frigate Birds, and maybe even a Brown Pelican or two. Not to mention the HERDS of Green Iguanas who graze like cattle throughout the gardens.

And all this without ever leaving the comfort of your own veranda!

Other animals which you may observe from your front porch include: Coatimundi, Raccoon, Four-eyed Possum, Tropical Porcupine, Central American Grey Squirrel, Aguti, Tayra, and Black Howler Monkey. If you are very lucky you may even see a shy and elusive River Otter, or the true "King of the Jungle" the American Crocodile.

By all means... bring your binoculars and "life list". You will need them!
Special Entertainment You can gather 'round the fire hearth and Punta Dance the night away, with the frequent Garifuna Drummers. Free dance lessons given nightly.
